If you’re thinking about self-publishing a book or you’ve written a book and you’re ready to put your book baby out in the world, you may be asking yourself, “How much is this self-publishing thing going to cost me?”

While there are costs associated with publishing a book, such as covers and editing, many people are surprised to learn that it costs zero dollars to actually publish a book.

Many new authors fall in the trap of thinking that they have to pay someone to “publish” their book, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Despite the numerous companies who claim you need them to get your book onto online stores, anyone who can follow simple directions can easily publish their book.

Let me say this clearly: do not pay a company to post your book on online bookstore sites. You’ll be throwing money away, money you can use for something you really need, like a good cover.
